Well this is embarrassing but I need to RETRACT the post on Calhoun’s GF menu being discontinued. In my efforts to get information out quickly, I did not double check this fact with a second source. After this post I used the feedback form on the Calhoun’s website to express my disappointment of their decision. And to my surprise, I got a lovely email back from Brenda Herron, a Calhoun’s operations representative. Calhoun’s has not abandoned us!!!
Here is what Brenda sent to me via email:
I am sorry to hear someone thinks we have stopped our Calhoun’s Gluten Free Menu.
In fact, we have just completed research with a registered dietitian who has checked everything and has helped us get a new menu ready for our restaurants – this should be in the restaurants by the middle of next week.
We are currently working on a gluten free menu for our Smoky Mountain Brewery restaurants and should have it available sometime in August. We have also looked into using gluten free pizza dough and have purchased some to try in the restaurants.
It is our plan to have gluten free menus available for all concepts as soon as we can. This will include Cherokee Grill and Copper Cellar.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. We have only pulled the old gluten free menu in Calhoun’s to update and make sure it is correct.
I encourage you to once again give your feedback to Calhoun’s by thanking them for remembering the dietary needs of the East Tennessee community. Its great to have a restaurant group with so many locations easing our dining out experiences. Thanks so much, Calhoun’s!!!

Through another well-versed gluten free friend, Janet Prince, I learned this week that Calhoun’s is no longer offering a gluten-free menu. Janet received a letter after someone, who went to Calhoun’s specifically because of their g.f. menu, was told they no longer have one. Here was Janet’s response:
” I recently had lunch at Calhoun’s and was told they were revising their g.f. menu. And now it looks like they decided not to revise it, but delete it altogether. … From my understanding, unless you order just a plain steak and a salad (which is what I did because it was something they could safely provide), anything else they offer may contain gluten … This is a good example where we must call ahead before we go out to eat anywhere. ”
Calhoun’s is part of the Copper Cellar Family of restaurants, if you would like to provide them direct feedback click here.
